Clarity Singapore Launches Podcast to Raise Awareness of Maternal Mental Health

Clarity Singapore is pleased to announce the launch of Birth of a Mother, a four-part podcast series that seeks to raise awareness and foster open dialogue around postnatal depression — a condition that affects approximately one in ten mothers in Singapore. This initiative aims to address the stigma and silence that too often surround maternal mental health challenges, particularly in the early stages of motherhood.
Hosted by Clarity's clinical psychologist Ms. Janice Quek, the podcast features candid accounts from mothers who have experienced postnatal depression firsthand. Among them are Ms. Bernadette Loh, a mother of two, and Audrey (pseudonym), who both speak with honesty about their emotional struggles, the societal pressures they faced, and the paths they took toward healing. Complementing these personal narratives is expert commentary from Dr. Gillian Lim, who leads the maternal mental health service at the Institute of Mental Health and a mother of four herself. Dr. Lim provides both professional insight and personal perspective on the importance of accessible support systems for mothers.
This podcast launch was also featured in The Straits Times article, Mothers no longer keeping mum about postnatal depression on new podcast | The Straits Times published on 28 April 2025, which highlighted the importance of open conversations and community support in maternal mental health.
Birth of a Mother was officially launched on April 28, 2025, at the Institute of Mental Health and is now available on Clarity Singapore's YouTube channel. New episodes will be released weekly throughout May in conjunction with Mother's Day, to honour the complexities and courage of motherhood.
