Lighting the Way Small Group

Target Audience: 

Individuals that have direct or indirect experiences with friends or loved ones who may be suffering from depression but have difficulty getting them to seek help


Workshop Synopsis:

This workshop serves to create a space for caregivers to come together to find support in one another and also to increase their knowledge of their care-giving role. The workshop is conducted in a small group setting and functions as a psychoeducational group. Through various interactive and experiential activities, it aims to:

  • Provide empathy, validation and support
  • Develop a sense of community within the group
  • Increase self-awareness and confidence
  • Build a safe environment for participants to learn from one another and encourage each other in their journey as caregivers.  


Objective Outcomes:

  1. Achieve self-awareness by recognizing their goals and challenges in their caregiving journey
  2. Recognising how the cause and manifestation of the disorder is determined by the dynamic interaction between the biological, psychological and social factors
  3. Recognising the stage (Transtheoretical Model of Change) that the person in care is in and how as caregiver can we help them progress to the next stage of change
  4. Recognising unhelpful thinking patterns in the caree and use socratic questioning to communicate better
  5. Awareness of the caregiver stressors and to be able to derive participant’s own self-care plan
  6. Adapting themselves to the needs of the person in care and the importance of self-affirmation in their role as caregivers
  7. Understanding how emotions affect their caregiving role and learn techniques to manage emotions

Workshop Synopsis:
Maintenance Group sessions provide a safe and supportive space for individuals who are on a care-giving journey to find growth, encouragement and support from one another. The workshop is conducted in a small group setting and functions as a psychoeducational group. The topics for the three sessions will be tailored to the group’s needs.
