Clarity Singapore is pleased to announce the appointment of Anne Pillai as Executive Director with effect from 1st September 2023, taking over from Joachim Toh who had held the position since February 2021.
Anne is no stranger to Clarity, having joined the organisation as the Service & Operations Lead in March 2022. She has significantly contributed to Clarity’s growth and progress over the past 1.5 years. Anne spearheaded the review of governance practises leading to the achievement of the PDPA & Cyber security certification. She has also been instrumental in improving partnerships and collaborations with other agencies to enhance Clarity’s impact in the community.
Passionate about mental health, Anne has a commendable track record of 15 years of working and volunteering with organisations that support children, youth, women and families. Prior to joining Clarity, Anne lived in Malaysia where she was a founding team member of the only child helpline in Malaysia, Buddy Bear; and a member of the National Coalition for Mental Wellbeing. Anne is a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association. She also has an MBA from Nanyang Technological University. Her prior experience in leadership, team management, and process optimisation across diverse sectors further bolster her capability to lead Clarity to new heights.
Expressing her gratitude on her promotion, Anne said “I am honoured to be entrusted with this opportunity to serve Clarity in this capacity. Mental health continues to be a growing concern especially amongst the youth in Singapore. Thus, community agencies such as Clarity play an important role in making mental health services accessible to all Singaporeans regardless of religion or background”.
The board is delighted to welcome Anne to her new role and would like to take this opportunity to thank Joachim Toh for his steadfast leadership and significant contributions during his tenure.
Joachim oversaw Clarity during the pandemic, a period marked by high challenges and a need for extensive mental health care. In response to the population’s shifting work schedules, he implemented weekend and evening therapy sessions to ensure more people can access to our services. For the past two years, Joachim also spearheaded our fundraising initiative #WalkforClarity, making connections with key stakeholders and sponsors, raising over $180K in total.
Lastly but certainly not least, Joachim will continue to play a significant role as our advisor for fundraising and financial matters in order to sustain our important mission. We wish him best in his future endeavours.
